Association of Personal Historians

There is one not for profit group that is a great resource as ‘the’ professional network of personal historians.  From their site:

“The Association of Personal Historians, Inc. is a not-for-profit international trade association. The purpose of the Association is to advance the profession of helping individuals, organizations, and communities preserve their histories, memories, and life stories. APH focuses on providing educational, training, and networking opportunities to help professional personal historians, from beginners to advanced, build their personal history businesses. ”

GOOD

When you look for the good in others, you discover the best in yourself.

I am not just waiting for something good to happen–I know something good is happening and I am ready to accept it.

Before speaking I ask myself: Is it true, is it kind, is it necessary?

Things that we take forgranted in our lives are totally amazing. -                                                                                                                  –Peter Kater

As I shared the memories and stories of my ancestors and the stories of my life I felt embraced and honored with Jan’s ability to hear me and respect my journey.  The time spent with Jan will be a memory in my book of life.  Thank you, Jan.

Listening

Sometimes just listening is the greatest act of love.

Carolyn Romero – Loveland CO

For over 30 years I have been researching the genealogy of the Juan de Jesus Vigil family, who settled in southern Colorado in 1860.   As I have located descendants, Jan has helped me document the family history by interviewing over 50 members of my family.  Jan has the ability to put people at ease and is able to draw interesting facts from our family members.

Opportunity

Obstacles present us with opportunities.

If I want to see change, I must change my thinking.

I consider each day a golden opportunity for me to have a fresh outlook on my world.

Anyone interested in preserving their family history should definately contact Jan Lindgren of Life’s Reflections.  My wife and I recently had our stories recorded as a gift to our kids and grandchildren.  We found this to be a most enjoyable experience.  Jan seemed genuinely interested in everything we were saying and it became like reminiscing with an old friend.

Homesteading with the Juan de Jesus Vigil Family

In 1860 Juan de Jesus Vigil and his wife Maria Romano Bustos Vigil came to southern Colorado with 16  children.  They homesteaded near the base of the Spanish Peaks at a settlement called Trujillo Creek. As their sons became 21 they also were granted  homesteads.

As a Personal Historian I have interviewed over 50 descendants of this interesting early Colorado family.
